This week has felt like one big final hurrah for spring, with chill and damp interrupting the summerlike balminess we’d been enjoying. As much as the warmth has been pleasant, it’s nice to be reminded that we are still in the last days of spring, and that unexpected chaos can blow up without warning. When that happens, we can ground ourselves and take a moment before taking on a new challenge.
In the generative cycle, Wood fuels Fire, and the beginnings we have cultivated can be used to create heat and light and energy. Wood’s upward flow of energy lets us unroot ourselves and become active, enjoy social activities, and laugh together. We get to experience the livelier counterpoint to winter’s cold and isolating power.
Fire is an expressive element, the most yang of yang, and just like in winter it becomes essential to look at our activities and check for balance. Do we need to plan a moment or a day of rest after a period of intense work or physical movement? Is it time for quiet contemplation after a big social gathering or exciting event? It’s easy to let summer call us to motion and socialization; it’s a bigger challenge to respect the other side of the coin. Remember: rest is part of the cycle.

With the beginning of June, we have also moved into Pride season! I am happy to include Allies in my PINKPURPLE discount for massage through August 31st (available at my Cavendish and Queen Mary locations; Concordia students still benefit from a student discount at the PERFORM Centre on Loyola Campus). If you have had issues with my code at Meta 1111, I am pleased to report that I have found and fixed the error.
I am making a virtual move from my online home of four years to a new domain. Please add Luromindbody.com to your bookmarks, Luromassage.com will not last the summer. My trusted webmaster is helping ensure a smooth transition, so you will continue to be able to book online and read my posts in the same place.

I am working on a new series of virtual events (likely Sundays at 8:00pm EDT) that brings movement, meditation, and storytelling together in an embodied practice. This will take place in the comfort of your home, with a yoga mat (and optionally, blocks and bolsters and other supports), and a journal.
I’ve noticed in my meditations that while I let most of my thoughts go by after acknowledging them, a few are interesting to explore once the meditation is over. My idea is to use your notebook to write them down and investigate whatever stories those thoughts might lead to. There will be an optional sharing period at the end for those who wish to discuss what came up.
Take time to reconnect with your body, to relax, and to reflect on how you want to move through the season.
